I must say, I have mixed feeling after watching this movie. It was so good and so bad at the same time. It was hard to correlate premises of ageless person without any science-fiction approach, and Age of Adaline fails this. This isn’t science-fiction, science fantasy, well maybe I can accept.
A young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into.
I just watch this movie last night because have invitation from ClozetteID, the movie will play in Indonesian thetaers around June 24.
The Age of Adaline is like Nicholas Sparks movie with touch of SciFi wannabe which would have a lot of potential mind-blowing story to explores that directed and written so badly. There’s wasted opportunity to put cooler visual and big moment to this movie. Oh gosh, so frustrating I almost pissed off!
Now, forget this unrealistic element that is not adequately explained, the rest of The Age of Adaline story is about realistic emotional responses which played really really good in this movie. Specifically Blake Lively. Blake Lively is very pretty, timeless, wise, sophisticated and lady-like in this movie, I can say this is her best acting so far. Not only her act, Harrison Ford and younger version of him also AH-MA-ZING.
Romance in this movie is, well, okay. I’m not big fan of romance, but I do enjoy the plot. The setup of romance in this movie began perfectly with stunning flows that really made Age of Adaline worth its while. And as a person who don’t like romance, this statement means a lot.
The cinematography in this movie looked excellent, the costumes also very beautiful. But the worst part of this movie is the narration. Oh my god, it’s so bad makes me want to kill the narrator instantly.
I can’t say Age of Adaline isn’t worth to watch, but I also can’t say it is spectacular. And one thing for sure, Adaline’s story shows the limitations of detaching yourself from the present.
